Flax, the plant from which linen is made, is also extremely versatile. This plant really loves CO2. With a little help from the sun, flax plants on one hectare absorb more than 3,7 metric tons of carbon dioxide and convert it into oxygen. Also, It is strong and naturally moth resistant, so when untreated it is fully biodegradable.
Linen is considered to be the strongest of all natural fibers, and it's even been found to get stronger with washes! It is also regarded as the best quality fabric. It has been long favoured for home textile, summer wear because of its amazing properties. Linen can be woven to a soft and breezy finish, making it ideal for summer clothes. It softens the more it is used and washed, is extremely durable, breathable and lasts decades when cared for correctly.
Flax has many applications for each part: it is virtually impossible to have waste, and production is cost-effective.
A common by-product of flax is linseed oil, which is great for wood preservation, especially in varnishes, and flaxseed oil is also rich in omega 3! Flax is resilient and can grow in poor soil, using far less water in its consumption than cotton. Like all-natural fibers, it can be recycled or composted. Moreover, flax has a natural color with a beautiful flair. Hence, a lot of our tissues do not require extra dyeing.
